Theoretical Foundations of Traditional Chinese Medicine

In Chinese medicine theory, the heart, spleen, lungs, kidneys, and liver are called the five organs, which have important physiological functions and interact with each other.

Heart:

In Chinese medicine, the heart controls vascular circulation and controls mental activity and emotions.
The heart and blood vessels are closely related, and when the heart qi is full, blood circulation is good, and when the heart qi is active, it can affect emotions and sleep.
The heart and kidneys are interconnected; the heart governs divine light, and the kidneys govern spirit; therefore, the lubrication of kidney water is necessary to regulate the heart fire.

Spleen (spleen stomach):
The spleen transports the subtle substances of water grains, and is responsible for digestion, absorption, and transportation of nutrients.
Spleen qi deficiency can cause symptoms such as indigestion and loss of appetite, lead to dampness stagnation, and affect the function of other organs.
The spleen and lungs interact, with the spleen transporting water and grains and the lungs controlling respiration, both of which maintain the balance of fluid metabolism in the body.

lung:
The lungs control breathing, regulate the flow of Qi in the body, and regulate the rise and fall of gases.
The lungs are connected to the heart and kidneys; the lungs control qi, the heart controls blood, and the kidneys control essence, so the three work together to maintain the balance of qi and blood in the body.
Since the lungs control qi, a lack of qi can cause symptoms such as shortness of breath and coughing.

kidney:
The kidneys store energy and are responsible for reproduction, growth, development, and regulation of organ function.
When the kidney essence is full, physical strength is strong and reproductive function is healthy, but the opposite can cause a decline in sexual function and poor growth.
The kidneys are connected to the heart and liver; the kidneys control spirit, the heart controls spirituality, and the liver controls excretion, so the three together maintain the balance of physiological functions in the body.

liver:
The liver controls excretion, regulates emotions, and promotes the flow of Qi and blood.
Liver Qi Ikkei can cause symptoms such as emotional instability, headaches, and irregular menstruation.
The liver is related to the spleen and kidneys; the liver controls excretion, the spleen controls luck, and the kidneys control essence, so the three together maintain the balance of emotions and fluid metabolism in the body.

According to Chinese medicine theory, the heart, spleen, lungs, kidneys, and liver are interdependent and influence each other, and together maintain the body's physiological balance. When the functions of the five internal organs become malfunctioning, they may affect each other and cause various symptoms and diseases. The health of these five internal organs is the basis of a person's physical health.
